Fellow congregant Laura Gordon will inform us of Congregational Study Action Issues (CSAI). These are issues selected by UU member congregations for three years of study, reflection and action. The purpose is to provide member congregations of the Association with an opportunity to mobilize energy, ideas and resources around a common issue. The end result will be a deeper understanding of our religious position on the issue, a clear statement of Association policy as expressed in a Statement of Conscience, and a greater capacity for congregations to take effective action.
As UU’s we hold that every person is inherently worthy and has the right to flourish with dignity, love, and compassion; but we live in a violent and punitive culture. With study and reflection, can UU congregations form a statement of conscience and create actions that might lead to abolition of the carceral state? Can we transform our justice system from one of vengeance to one of repentance and restoration?
