At the same time\, anthropologists began examining the ideas of prehistoric matriarchal Goddess cultures in the Mediterranean region\, with some claiming that female theologies emerged in Prehistoric Europe during the Upper Paleolithic period around 30\,000 years ago. \nDecades later\, starting from the 1970s into the current day\, the Goddess movement has emerged as an international cultural phenomenon. Women are recognized in many religious organizations as spiritual beings and are welcomed in leadership and teaching roles – we are moving in the direction of a post patriarchal society\, though it sometimes seems there are miles more to travel and much more work to be done in this area. \nWho or what is the Goddess?
