DESCRIPTION:Hispanic Heritage Month – September 15 – October 15\n  \nHispanic Heritage Month celebrates the contributions of Americans tracing their roots to Spain\, Mexico\, Central America\, South America and the Spanish-speaking nations of the Caribbean. In 1968\, Congress set aside a week for this observance and two decades later expanded it to a month stretching from September 15 to October 15. The timing is historically significant as September 15 is the anniversary of independence in Costa Rica\, El Salvador\, Guatemala\, Honduras and Nicaragua. DESCRIPTION:Laura Gordon\n \n\nOn Labor Day we rest and enjoy the last days of summer. We should not forget that the collective actions of organized labor are responsible for us being able to rest\, to have an 8 hour work day and a minimum wage. Rising union membership after WWII lead to an expanding middle class\, but the decline of unions since the Regan era contributed to widening wealth inequality. Today\, labor unions are finding new solidarity across many sectors\, which is certainly a reason to celebrate this Labor Day.\n\n\n~Open hearts\, open minds\, room for all theologies\, including yours~\n  \nWe are meeting in person at the First Presbyterian Church of Astoria. The service will also be live-streamed via Zoom for those who are not comfortable attending in person.  Masks are now optional but strongly advised.
