SUMMARY:Prophetic Power and The Work for Justice
DESCRIPTION:Rev. Carol McKinley \nThe longing for justice\, equity\, and peace is not new; ancient peoples expressed their hopes in myths\, songs and stories.  Prophets who warned of looming catastrophes were shunned\, much as today’s prophets whose warnings of environmental and social dangers are ignored or belittled.  How do we open ourselves to hear their truths and have the courage to act? \nThe Reverend Carol McKinley\, the affiliated community minister with the Olympia UU Congregation\, received her MDiv from Seattle University’s School of Theology and Ministry in 2004.  She served as coordinator of Washington UU Voices for Justice\, a statewide legislative advocacy network. \n  \n~Open hearts\, open minds\, room for all theologies\, including yours~\n  \nWe are meeting in person at the First Presbyterian Church of Astoria. The service will also be live-streamed via Zoom for those who are not comfortable attending in person.  Masks are now optional but strongly advised. If you are not feeling well\, please wear a mask\, or attend via Zoom. \n  \n \nReligious Education for Children will occur during the regular service. \nContact Adriana at Puufreligioused@Pacuuf.org for more information. \n  \n \n\nJoin us for Coffee Hour after the service in Fellowship Hall!

SUMMARY:Solidarity: Celebrating Labor and Labor Day
DESCRIPTION:Laura Gordon\n \n\nOn Labor Day we rest and enjoy the last days of summer. We should not forget that the collective actions of organized labor are responsible for us being able to rest\, to have an 8 hour work day and a minimum wage. Rising union membership after WWII lead to an expanding middle class\, but the decline of unions since the Regan era contributed to widening wealth inequality. Today\, labor unions are finding new solidarity across many sectors\, which is certainly a reason to celebrate this Labor Day.\n\n\n~Open hearts\, open minds\, room for all theologies\, including yours~\n  \nWe are meeting in person at the First Presbyterian Church of Astoria.
