SUMMARY:Dia de Los Muertos
DESCRIPTION:Adriana Guerrero will deliver a presentation about Dia de Los Muertos (Day of the Dead).\nDuring Dia de los Muertos\, or the Day of the Dead\, the veil between the living and the dead is believed to thin\, allowing souls to briefly return to the world of the living to be with their families. This is a spiritual connection that celebrates life and death as a continuous cycle\, rather than focusing solely on loss. This sweet celebration honors loved ones by celebrating their lives and memories\, so that they are never truly gone. Adriana will discuss how we\, the living\, honor the dead through traditions like creating ofrendas with our deceased loved one’s  favorite foods and items\, and visiting gravesites to offer prayers and gifts. \n\n  \n\nWe are meeting in person at the First Presbyterian Church of Astoria. The service will also be live-streamed via Zoom for those who are not comfortable attending in person.  Masks are now optional but strongly advised. DESCRIPTION:Exploring the World of Pagan Rites \nJoin us at Noon on August 3rd\, 2025\, for our CUUPS Lughnasadh ritual\, celebrating the first harvest. This ritual will be conducted as part of the regular service of the Pacific Unitarian Universalist Fellowship and will be held in the fellowship hall at 770 11th Street\, Astoria. \nThis ritual will be the first in an ongoing series exploring Animism\, Paganism\, and Shamanism around the world. For Lughnasadh we will be looking to Asia and incorporating ritual elements and prayers from the Shinto religion of Japan. Shinto is a living tradition with an unbroken line of transmission through a continuous priesthood dating back over 2\,000 years. It is an animistic faith that encourages practitioners to recognize their connection to the cycle of the Great Nature. Within Shinto practice\, there are household altars\, a priesthood\, and recognized traditions of fortune telling\, seasonal rites\, and magical esoterism. Join us as we examine this fascinating path through the lens of CUUPs Paganism. \n  \n  \nWe are meeting in person at the First Presbyterian Church of Astoria. The service will also be live-streamed via Zoom for those who are not comfortable attending in person.  Masks are now optional but strongly advised. If you are not feeling well\, please wear a mask\, or attend via Zoom. \n \nJoin us for Coffee Hour after the service in Fellowship Hall!
